Classes

Eugene Modern Dance offers Modern Dance Classes for the total beginner and those with experience. The classes are unique in that they are for adults ages 20-65+ years. They are designed with a philosophy to “start where you are,” and “continue to where you will be.” They are not competitive, and offer a life-long journey for body and mind at any age. Class sizes are small, so each student gets individual attention and direction. They are uplifting, sustainable, healthy and safe, and their adaptability to individual needs makes them ideal for recovering from injury, trauma, or ongoing chronic conditions. These classes and workshops are for anyone who can see the benefits of moving the human body in a progressive, expressive and beautiful way.

Covid protocols observed, when they apply.

Winter Term (Jan-Mar 2024)

Any information regarding future classes will be updated on this page.

Intermediate Modern Dance – Classes offer inspired dance combinations that build over time. They draw from Cunnigham, Limon and Graham techniques. Some experience necessary.

Dance Exercise – Classes offer conditioning exercises based on pre-Pilates Gilbert Technique (created for the Joffrey Ballet for injured ballet dancers). This will lead to simple dance movements performed first in place, then moving across the floor. Inspiring music will motivate movement.

Stretch and Strengthening Session – Classes offer exercises that draw from Gilbert (originally created exercises for injured ballet dancers) and Pilates. The classes encourage a meditative approach by using imagery and breathing to accomplish your goals. Open to all levels.

Choreography Session – Classes explore the basic concepts of choreography (shape, space, quality and time/rhythm), to create an individual/solo piece. Direction and encouragement will be offered throughout the creation of the piece. Students will be encouraged to find their own content and expression. Option to perform dance piece for family and friends. Free rehearsal space outside of class. Open to all levels.
